Ahh the Christmas holidays are upon us. WOOOOOOO. Here is one of many mixes to come this holiday season. I have been sitting on a few till now. Diplo rewind

Diplo was everywhere in 2009, whether it was standing beside Switch as Major Lazer or destroying dancefloors with his DJing and solo productions. So it was only good 'n’ proper that Mixmag should ask him to put together our end of year cover CD, ‘2009 Rewind’.

And what a magnificent rewind it is. Diplo cuts, scratches and mixes his way through last year’s anthems such as Prodigy’s ‘Invaders Must Die’, Chase and Status’ ‘Eastern Jam’ and the Major Lazer masterpiece, ‘Pon De Floor’. It's an absolute classic which begs the question...how the hell are we gonna better that next year?

Aoki invented the Remix

Aoki jumping on the mainstream is not a bad thing in my mind. These remixes are pretty good, however the Drake remix seems a bit much. The lyrics run a bit fast. The Cudi track on the other hand is a heavy hitter. Talk about starting off with a bang.

The art of the Mix

When approaching a show or making a mix it's always good to have a few tracks that you know will rock the listener. Today I have included some new rockers and some oldies.



MP3: Rye Rye - Witch Doctor
The release of Rye Rye's album has been rumored to be soon, however from my knowledge no date has been officially set. A few blogs are posting possible tracklists and dates, however nothing is confirmed. Here is one tune that could possibly make the album or your future mix.

MP3: Kelis & Crookers - No Security
This song has been out for a while now, but only available by stream. The Crookers are asking various DJ's to remix the track. Look to their site for various remixes of this track. I believe the TOMB CREW were the first to be asked to re work it. Also another good tack to throw in the mix.

MP3: Kid Sister - Big N Bad
This album has dropped and the hype before it was vey similar to what Rye Rye is getting. At first listen it is 7 out of 10 on my scale.


MP3: Emynd ft Roundhead – The Most High
I have never really heard a bad tune come from Emynd. Here is his latest one. The EP has various remix that really change the style of the track. Emynd always seems to get a good group of artists to re work his tunes.

I had never heard this song before listening to 8 bits July mix. It comes as the second track on his mix and it is just killer.

MP3:Florence + The Machine - You Got The Love (The XX Remix) (Renaissance Man Edit) (mp3)
There is not much to this track and this is why I love it. A simple drum beat at a good tempo. This track reinforces that sometimes less can be so much more.

MP3:Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me (Gigamesh Remix Final Version)
I posted this because I saw an interesting article or rather rebuddle on Gigamesh's blog that said he was asked to remix this track and did, but never send it to Mike. The problem was Mike Posner still put the mix out with Giagmesh's name on it, but not the right edit. He also claims that he has not been paid for the remix ethier. Interesting situation if you ask me. Great track ethier way. Hopefully it will all work out for both parties. This is the version that Gagmesh is standing behind and not the other one that is flaoting around.

Live Major Lazers Set

I was skimming the Mad Decent site the other day and noticed they had posted the winners of their Major Lazers Contest. I was'nt surprised that the winners were not familiar to me, but I was a little confused. How is it that a A contest with over 500 entries can have such poor quality winners. I listened to the winners entry and even some of the runner up entries to see if got better, but it didn't. I began to question my taste, and if I actually had any? In an attempt to make myself feel better I decided to check the comments box to see what others were thinking. Thankfully for me, I was not the only one. After reading numerous comments I knew a mistake had to have been made. The site admin had overlooked the feature of people or IP addresses only being able to vote once.The winners for the most part had cheated or scammed their way to the top. ( I said some...not all) Moral of the story...if your going to hold a contest try and think of everything. If they cheat in the olympics, they'll cheat in a major lazers remix contest.
