Attention Deficit

Wale’s Attention Deficit has been one of the most anticipated debuts in hip-hop for quite a while. The D.C. native put together five excellent mixtapes (the sublime Seinfeld takeoff Mixtape About Nothing stands out by far), a few hits (including Justice remix “W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.” and the male shoe lover’s anthem “Nike Boots”) and acted (with fellow District of Columbia musicians UCB) as the house band for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

On Attention Deficit, Wale has put together a great debut full of excellent signs that there will be a bright future ahead. On Attention Deficit, Wale has put together a great debut full of excellent signs that there will be a bright future ahead.

Wallpaper

“I Got Soul, I’m So Wasted”, one of many killer cuts on the upcoming Wallpaper record, is an insanely catchy pillar of glam electro. Atop dense, driving percussion, explosions of soaring synth and bass, and revolving layers of drones, tones, blips, and beeps, Ricky Reed lays down massive autotune hooks with copious amounts of swagger. Familiar and yet original in its own right, this track is a perfect introduction to an album that’s perfect for gettin’ dancefloors movin’.

Huston We have a problem

The whole week I have been without the Internet. What did I ever do before this thing. I know I bought way more CDs and records, and I know I was not as paranoid or informed. I guess there is always a bit of good and bad in all things useful. I have been much more productive...work wise, however less informed...global news wise. VIA my blackberry I have been sent some tunes to pass along. As it is Friday in the Kingdom I thought it best to put them altogether. Although each of these tunes deserves a write up on their own, my internet cafe charges will be threw the roof if I go into too much detail. Please forgive me. I shall do better when life is returned to normal. Enjoy.

Holidays

Back from holidays. Spent the most part of last week sailing around Phuket and enjoying the sun and ocean. Here's a few tracks that were missed while I was away. Enjoy.

Pretty good remix of Drake. Adds a simple yet effective touch.

Drake - Best I Ever Had (matamatics Remix)

New Wezzer and Lil Wayne. These guys are proving they can cross over and collaborate with almost everyone. Wezzer and Weezy. Funny.

Weezer's Rivers Cuomo has revealed that Lil Wayne has recorded a guest rap on a song on the band's forthcoming new album, 'Raditude'.

The singer/guitarist told MTV News that he enlisted the rapper to give the song "edge" – although did not reveal which specific track he guests on.

"We got Lil Wayne to come in and do a rap on it," he said. "Any other rapper would've just done, 'Yay, we're partying! Let's drink and have fun,' but he gave it the edge I was looking for.

"You can hear in his voice, it sounds so dark, like he was gonna get shot or something when he walks out of the studio. So I was real happy that everyone involved got what we were going for."

Cuomo said that the cameo was part of an attempt to do something "different" following 2008's 'The Red Album' release. "We loved that album, but this is 2009," he said. "It's time to do something totally different. So I reached out to some friends of mine in different genres: Jermaine Dupri, for example, king of R'n'B, I wrote a song with him called 'Can't Stop Partying'.

"It was a real challenge for me, taking his ideas, which are very slick, R'n'B party, and giving it some kind

Boy 8 bit can do no wrong. Jumping on board the quicksand remixes, 8 bit shows his unique style and ability to take a song from good to great.

La Roux - Quicksand (Boy 8-Bit Remix) (mp3)

Obvious smash. A Trak remixes have the uncanny ability to attract many fans quickly. His style, and keen sense of timing all contribute to the success of his originals and remixes. This one is no exseption.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix) (ysi)

Weekend Shows Please!!!

Sinden just rolled into town last night and played the newest in live DJ venues...DEMO. Could not attended as a mid week show is bad for business. I know it must be pricey bringing acts in on the weekend, but for the working class it is a real pain to have to see shows in the middle of the week. This is a cry to promoters to PLEASE book shows on the weekend.

About the track:
Famed produced Jack Splash gets the remix treatment from Sinden. Of course a dance floor banger. Splashe's debut album (Technology and Love might Save us all) set to hit shelves early 2010.

Jazzy Jeff is in the House

If I could DJ half as well as this guy I would be a happy man. If you have never heard Jazzy Jeff here is a perfect example of his unbelievable skills. Globally know as Will Smith's DJ this guy is in a league of his own, and Will should be known as his MC. Currently he is on a Canadian tour, which unfortunately for me I can not make. Maybe Bangkok will be on the bill in the near future.

Some Basics about JEFF

DJ Jazzy Jeff (born Jeffrey A. Townes on January 22, 1965 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American hip hop DJ/turntablist, keyboardist, and hip hop/R&B record producer. He is best known for his early career with Will Smith as half of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.Together, the duo had several gold and platinum-selling albums and singles in the late 1980s and early 1990s, earning them the first rap Grammy ever presented in 1989 for Parents Just Don't Understand. When Smith branched out into television with the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Jazzy Jeff played the popular recurring character "Jazz", whose trademarks were :

1. to be physically thrown out of the house by Will's Uncle Phil (James Avery);

2. his silly one-liners

3. his bizarre love for Will's cousin Hilary

A month after being sentenced for assaulting Rihanna, Chris Brown is back making music with "I Can Transform Ya". The track has an atypical beat, especially for a Chris Brown track. Swizz Beatz does a great job on production and Lil Wayne's Transformer-reference-laced flow is priceless. Check out the track and let me know what you think.

Dj Pump throw back mix. Way back in 07. A lot of great remixes and classic tunes. Worth a listen.

Jeepney Sound Vol. 6 by DJ PUMP

Here's what the Team Canada Dj had to say about the mix.

Here's a mix i made in 2007 for Jeepney clothing in Seattle & California area.. I think the original zshare file expired with about 80,000+ downloads (wow!)... Major Lazer...Podcast

Good interview and good explanation about how Major Lazers came to be.

Major Lazers Podcast for Guardian.co.uk

They Said:
Welcome to the latest instalment of Music Weekly, the only podcast with pep in its two-step.

This week's show is dance music focused, but dance music with a global twist. Our first guests are Major Lazer, whose album Guns Don't Kill People ... Lazers Do takes electronic rhythms and matches them to vocals from some of the biggest names in dancehall. It's a sound that's been ubiquitous on dancefloors this summer and it's the brainchild of DJ Switch and Diplo. The latter, also a longtime collaborator with MIA, talks to Paul MacInnes about why dancehall is the most experimental music going, white dudes making black music, and cartoon soldiers who like to fight zombies.

We follow Major Lazer with the Very Best, another unique proposition which sees European producers Radioclit team with Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya on an album of trans-continental sounds featuring guest contributions from Ezare Koenig and the aforementioned MIA along the way. Radioclit, aka Johan Karlberg and Etienne Tron (cool name), speak to Paul about how the project came about, the curse that afflicted their recording and why they've no problem with being Europeans making African music.
